Efficient design and optimization of photonic crystal waveguides and couplers: The Interface Diffraction Method.
We present the interface diffraction method (IDM), an efficient technique to determine the response of planar photonic crystal waveguides and couplers containing arbitrary defects. Field profiles in separate regions of a structure are represented through two contrasting approaches: the plane wave expansion method in the cladding and a scattering matrix method in the core. These results are comb...
متن کاملAn Efficient Numerical Method for Analyzing Photonic Crystal Slab Waveguides
Computing the eigenmodes of a photonic crystal (PhC) slab waveguide is computationally expensive, since it leads to eigenvalue problems in threedimensional domains which are large compared with the wavelength. In this paper, a procedure is developed to reduce the eigenvalue problem for PhC slab waveguides to a nonlinear problem defined on a small surface in the waveguide core. The reduction pro...
متن کاملNanopillars photonic crystal waveguides.
We present a novel type of a waveguide, which consists of several rows of periodically placed dielectric cylinders. In such a nanopillars photonic crystal waveguide, light confinement is due to the total internal reflection, while guided modes dispersion is strongly affected by waveguide periodicity. Nanopillars waveguide is multimode, where a number of modes is equal to the number of rows buil...
متن کاملNonlinear dual-core photonic crystal fiber couplers.
We study nonlinear modes of dual-core photonic crystal fiber couplers made of a material with the focusing Kerr nonlinearity. We find numerically the profiles of symmetric, antisymmetric, and asymmetric nonlinear modes and analyze all-optical switching generated by the instability of the symmetric mode. We also describe elliptic spatial solitons controlled by the waveguide boundaries.
متن کاملPhotonic Crystal Nanocavities and Waveguides
Fabrication of optical structures has evolved to a precision which allows us to control light within etched nanostructures. Nano-optic cavities can be used for efficient and flexible concentration of light in small volumes, and control over both emission wavelength and frequency. Conversely, if a· periodic pattern is defined in the top semitransparent metal layer by lithography, it is possible ...
